Primergy Solar Signs Long-Term PPA with San Diego Community SOLAR Power

Primergy Solar secures a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with San Diego Community Power (SDCP) for the full capacity of its 400-MWAC and 1.6-GWh energy storage Purple Sage Energy Center.

Primergy Solar, a developer, owner and operator of utility-scale solar and energy storage projects, has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for the full capacity of its 400-MWAC and 1.6-GWh energy storage Purple Sage Energy Center with San Diego Community Power (SDCP). SDCP, California’s second largest Community Choice Aggregator (CCA) serving nearly 1 million customers, will receive renewable energy and attributes in a long-term power offtake agreement when the project is expected to come online in 2027.

Primergy CEO Ty Daul on the Significance of the PPA

Primergy CEO Ty Daul emphasizes the importance of the PPA with SDCP in advancing the development of the Purple Sage Energy Center and highlights the critical role of solar paired with energy storage in ensuring grid stability.

“Signing a PPA with SDCP marks a significant milestone in the development of Purple Sage Energy Center,” said Primergy CEO Ty Daul. “Pairing solar with sizable battery energy storage systems is vital for grid stability and creating a reliable, dispatch-able energy resource. We are proud of the lasting partnerships we have made through this project and look forward to delivering carbon-free energy to the power grid.”

Ideal Location of Purple Sage SOLAR Energy Center

Situated between Las Vegas and the California border in Nevada, the Purple Sage Energy Center benefits from an optimal solar power location, proximity to grid demand, and abundant sunlight.

Purple Sage Energy Center is in Nevada, between Las Vegas and the California border, in an optimal solar power location because of its proximity to grid demand and abundance of sun. Primergy working with the Bureau of Land Management to develop new standards to improve the siting, design and construction of renewable energy operations.

Commitment to Renewable SOLAR Energy Goals

SDCP CEO Karin Burns underscores the project's alignment with SDCP's mission to provide clean, reliable, and affordable energy to customers, reinforcing their commitment to ambitious renewable energy goals.

Environmental and Community Benefits

The agreement with Primergy not only supports SDCP's renewable energy objectives but also emphasizes the project's focus on environmental sustainability and community welfare in the clean energy transition.

Project Impact and Benefits

Once operational, the Purple Sage Energy Center is projected to generate over 1.2 million MWh of carbon-free solar energy annually, powering more than 100,000 homes each year and contributing approximately $90 million in local tax payments over its lifetime.

SOLAR storage Project

Once completed, Purple Sage Energy Center is expected to generate over 1.2 million MWh of carbon-free solar energy annually, enough to power more than 100,000 homes per year. Over the project’s lifetime, the project is expected to create approximately $90 million in additional local tax payments. These payments will directly benefit local schools and provide Clark County with substantial resources that may be directed toward public safety, road upgrades, and infrastructure improvements.
