Polish grid-connected PV projects reach 18 GW

16-10-2023

Instytut Energetyki Odnawialnej (IEO) has revealed that 6,929 PV projects with a total capacity of around 18 GW had received preli-minary grid connection permits by the end of September, representing an increase of 41% in projects and 46% in planned capacity compared to the end of March.

Since December last year, Polish authorities have issued grid connection permits for 6.6 GW of PV projects, of which 1.2 GW have also received construction permits

IEO said, "Overall, the total capacity of PV projects that received construction permits between December 2022 and November 2023 exceeds 2.5 GW."

Despite the increasing number of new projects and capacity, the country's transmission system operator has rejected many project applications. For example, over the past two quarters, Enea has rejected 380 project applications with a total capacity of 6.28 GW and refused 109 project applications with a total capacity of 312 MW. According to the IEO, by the end of 2022, Poland's cumulative insta-lled PV capacity will have reached 12.4 GW.

by the end of 2025, its installed solar capacity could more than double to 26, The country is expected to add around 5,981 MW of ins-talled PV capacity this year, while 4,392 MW and 3,996 MW are expected to be added in 2024 and 2025, respectively, according to IEO's latest report.
