Israel frees up 2 GW of grid-connected renewable energy generation space
Israel plans to integrate more than 2 GW of additional renewable energy generation into the national grid, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure said in a recent statement.
The government said that the main reason for the suspension of the grid connection of new renewable energy power plants was grid congestion, and after recalculations of some power plants it was found that there was still room for power allocation.
Israel's Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure completed the recalculations in conjunction with the Israel Electricity Authority (IEA), Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) and the national grid management company Noga. A statement from the ministry said that the new plants will be successfully connected to the grid in the "coming weeks," especially in southern and northern Israel.
The government has allocated NIS 17 billion ($4.4 billion) to address congestion on the national grid, and Noga is leading projects aimed at integrating additional renewable energy production schemes and energy storage facilities into the grid by 2030.
